Basic Ingredients for Modern Root Beer
Modern root beer primarily consists of two important ingredients - wintergreen oil (methyl salicylate) and anise oil. These are mixed with an emulsifier (in very small quantities), added to sugar-water, and carbonated to create root beer. There are many other ingredients that can be added to enhance the flavor of root beer, enhance the foam, and as preservatives. Detailed recipes on how to create and carbonate root beer can be found on rootbeerbrewer.com. |
